TSWW 2016  WELCOMES PALAPA SOCIETY STUDENTS

Todos Santos, BCS, MX – January 7, 2016: The Todos Santos Writers Workshop and the Palapa Society are pleased to announce the award of two scholarships to the 2016 TSWW session January 25 – 30, 2016. Attending the workshop are: Víctor Manuel González Chávez, student at CCYT high school; and Marco Lopez Santos, an award-winning architect and graduate of Instituto Tecnologico de La Paz. Both are Todos Santos residents active in the Palapa Society’s community programs

“Victor is an important part of student life at the Palapa,” said Serena Saltzman, Program Director of the Bridge to English (Puente) program, which serves children and youth. “He’s an active, enthusiastic English student, and a highly creative, and wonderfully warm person in his own right. He continuously inspires people of all ages to be more active, more creative, and more embracing of our community concerns.”

“Marco is a young, enthusiastic and innovative architect,” said Ivonne Benitez Guzman, the Palapa Society’s Program Director of Adult English. “One of his strengths is his work on renewable energy through the use of vegetation and regional elements. He is an eager student with patience, creativity and positive vibes.”

“We are happy to join for a second year with the Palapa Society in its educational mission,” said TSWW Executive Director Rex Weiner. “Writing is an important skill in today’s society and we looking forward to these two talented students joining us.

Palapa Society and Todos Santos Writers Workshop 2015 Scholarship Awards

The Todos Santos Writers Workshop and the Palapa Society awarded two scholarships to the 2015 TSWW session. Evelyn Urias Velazquez and Frida Cadena Cota, students at CCYT high school, both attended the 5-day workshop from January 26 through January 30 .

“Evelyn and Frida have been familiar faces at the Palapa Center since they were little girls, and we consider them two of our ‘all-stars’, said Tim Doyle, of the Palapa Society Advisory Board.  “The Palapa board is delighted that the TSWW leadership has afforded them this exciting opportunity to build upon their already impressive English skills in a professionally conducted workshop.  Hats off to the TSWW for reaching out to include these two motivated girls and for being a positive, active force in our community.”
