Seminar: 3:00 – 5:00PM,  Casa de la Cultura                                                                        Jonathan Penner – THIS WORLD IS YOURS: THE POWER OF POINT OF VIEW               Point of view rules in imaginative writing as it rules in life.  Join novelist Jonathan Penner as he shows how you can use point of view — the craft at the heart of writing — to transform your world into your work.

7:00 – 9:00PM – TSWW SALUTES TODOS SANTOS WRITERS at the Hotel California             A reading by local novelists Ray Avery Bartlett (Sunsets of Tulum) and Tony Irons (Hoover’s Children, Dengman Gap), and poet Greg Mahrer (A Provisional Map of the Lost Continent)

Christopher Merrill – THE FORGOTTEN LANGUAGE –  WRITING AND NATURE                     On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Forgotten Language, his widely-hailed 1991 anthology of work by poets writing about the natural world,  Merrill will focus on the sense of discovery and the relationship between humankind and nature, offering a consciousness-raising awareness of the threats to our environment.

Bruce Berger – COLLECTING THE WORLD  – AN ENVIRONMENTAL WRITER’S LIFE                Nonfiction writer and poet Bruce Berger will offer personal insights into his work and his views on the planet’s environmental crises as they affect the writer’s life after decades of exploration and friendship in Baja California.

Meg Thompson, Cindy Uh, Andrea Barzvi                                                                                              It is often said that the author-agent relationship is like a marriage. New York City-based literary agents Meg Thompson and Cindy Uh (Thompson Literary) and Andrea Barzvi (Empire Literary), in discussion with TSWW instructor Jeanne McCulloch, will talk all about their roles in the literary profession—and answer many questions.

This bi-lingual discussion in English and Spanish focuses on the environmental crisis, from climate change to local challenges in Baja California, and how writers can respond effectively through their work, from journalism and fiction to poetry and other literary forms.
